Environment:
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, brand new fresh installation,
with all Microsoft updates, and
manually went down device manager and checked each driver one by one for any updates.
Hardware: Sager NP8690 (Clevo W86CU), 8GB Kingston DDR3/1333 Dual Channel RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5870 w/1GB GDDR5, Intel® Core™ i7-740QM (1.73~2.93GHz, 45W) w/6M Cache - 4 Cores, 8 Threads
------------------------------------------------------------
History:
After 17 months of no problems, suddently Win7 started randomly freezing, with no apparent pattern or obvious triggering event. After trying a long time to fix, finally did a complete reinstall of Windows.
After fresh complete new install, it's still randomly freezing. It seems especially to happen when the "Start" button is clicked, but at other times too.
--------------------------------------------------------
Evaluation so far:
Tried doing a second time complete reinstall of Windows 7. The hardware all tests good. diagnostics built into Windows report no problems found. I'm wondering if maybesome recent Windows update triggered this trouble.
Google says there was some Microsoft hotfix for this years past, but that was later included into SP1, which is installed.
It's interfering with my work.
