My laptop bit the dust, but I was able to salvage the hard drive and install it into a case to make it into an external hard drive. Now I'm trying to connect it to my friend's HP laptop and salvage my old information.
The now-external drive connects via two USB ports simultaneously, and I can try to boot from it, but it gives me a blue screen after a minute or two and doesn't go through. Additionally, when I boot from the laptop's internal hard drive as normal plug and play and simply try to copy files from the external drive that way, I am denied access to my desktop, my documents, etc., I think because I password protected my account before the thing took a nosedive.
I'm stuck. Any thoughts on how to either boot from the external drive or access the files the usual way. Does anyone know how I can do this?
thanks,
p.s. yes, it's a dell
