Help! Removing Heatsink Off CPU

eLinux

Member
I can't figure out how to remove the clip on the heatsink which is holding the heatsink assembly to the motherboard. In the instructions I had to "push" straight down to latch the metal mount onto the metal tooth...now I can't figure out how to remove it, and I don't want to break anything!

Help!?

btw -- AMD64 3500+ if that helps...and a Gigabyte board.

Thanks!

Make sure you use a screwdriver (if that's what it takes) that fits the slot good and snug to prevent damage to the motherboard.

sometimes the metal clip gets caught on the plastic tab and is tricky to get out. It might help if you pull out the power supply before doing this. Or pull the motherboard out completely.
