HELP Reloading OS X on Ibook G4

A friend of mine bought an Apple Ibook G4 used. It boots up and has 3 user accounts all of which are password protected, none of which we know. I 'acquired' a dmg of snow leopard. Converted it to ISO burned to a +R DL and tried to hold option down and make it boot from it. No success. Then I read in the instructions it had to be a -R DL. Nobody stocks those, so my friend went to Best Buy and bought snow leopard. Still no luck in booting from disc. Then I did some research and thought maybe it isnt a dvd rom but cd only? So I acquired a OS X 10.4 CD version, converted dmg to iso burned and tried that. Still no luck. Any suggestions??? Thanks!!!

Well, first of all, 10.6 Snow Leopard will not run on anything except an intel Mac. So that would never have worked regardless. As for why 10.4 Tiger is not working out for you, is it possible that the source from which you are 'acquiring' it from is not the most reputable?

In the meantime, you can try this to see if that will get you into the machine.

Do either of you know your way around a Mac? If not then just let us know what questions you have, but if are familiar with the interface, post back with the specs if those instructions get you in.

Ok I am at the command prompt but when I typed the 1st command off that site I got illegal mount then a list of options

[-dfruvw] [-o] [-t]
[-adfruvm]
[-dfruvw]

And I apologize I know a heck of a lot about pc's but next to nothing about Macs. Thanks so much for the help!

you can use the 10.5 DVD to boot up the machine, then go to Utility and reset the password of each account!, either 10.4 or 10.5 DVD will do. 10.6 remove the PowerPC support. only run on Intel Processor, so G4 or G5 can only use up to 10.5.8 Leopard
