I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP on my desktop. I formatted the hard drive booting from CD and also removed all partitions. I selected a new partition and used the max size possible and selected it to install Windows.

It starts copying files and going through the setup on the blue screen and then the computer restarts. From what I've read a new screen shoot pop up on the restart with additional prompts to install Windows. Instead it ends up booting from CD again.

Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

Sounds to me like you have a bad CD, just one defect or flaw on a cd, and it won't work again in million years. There are zillions of other windows XP install disks and the only difference is that only yours contains your COA. If your COA is still valid, you can use any other XP install disk, and reenter your COA at the end of the rainbow. Of course with XP, there are two flavors, home and Pro. You have to have have the correct install disk to match your COA.

That was my worry as well. I decided to take the advice of a friend and unhook the HD, memory, etc and re-install them (cables, etc) and I turned the computer back on and it is now going through the setup process. Crossing My Fingers!

It's been 8 years since I've installed Windows and it's about as slow as I remember it being then :)
