HELP! Registry File Failure in XP Pro!!

My computer has been running flawlessly for quite some time, but when I started it up this morning, I got a stop error with the message REGISTRY FILE FAILURE. I searched for a solution in Microsoft's knowledge base, but the one article pertaining to this problem is no longer available. Does anyone know how to fix this without reinstalling windows?
