Help recovering old data from a hd

Ok, I have an old pc that swapped with my mother-n-law and gave her and newer and faster pc for it. I've had it about 7-8 months and finally about 2 weeks ago I reformatted it and installed Windows XP Pro. It was running Windows 98 and it's an old HP Pavillion pc.

Ok, now to my question...my sister-n-law finally remember that she had some old college papers on that pc that she needs now So, is there any good powerhouse program out there that will help me recover these after a format? I know it can be done sometimes and I have a couple of programs like Undelete and PR Partition Recovery, but they only show me the new Win XP Stuff.

If Undelete didn't pick it up I doubt anything else will. Undelete has usually found everything for me, do you have the full version? Try Handyrecovery and Getdataback maybe, I wasn't too impressed with the trials of either of those though.
