Here's the deal...I already have recorded via voicemail a couple messages that i want to convert to mp3s for my ATOT friends to hear. There are probably 5 or 6 messages that i want to "rip", so...here i go.

I first tried splicing directly into my landline and hooking up a stereo adapter from an old pair of headphones. I got way too much static on the line to make out any conversation, but it still technically worked.

Next, i went to Radioshack to pick up a "phone tap" device that hooks up to your handset and is supposed to connect to a microcassette recorder. I didn't want that...despite the fact that it had a stereo adapter at the end of it, it did not want to work with my soundblaster live.

My last resort was to hook a microphone up next to my speakerphone and try to record. I was having a hard time with that for some reason or another, so i downloaded Cool Edit 200 hoping that the problem was within Sound Recorder (windows app). I'm still having trouble. I'm looking at the back of my soundcard right now verifying that i have the mic plugged into the right hole. I think i have the soundblaster gamer, not the 5.1 though. The colors listed on the website don't correspond with my card, so i'm wondering now wtf i'm trying to do.

help.

I think the most efficient method to record phone calls is to get a simple V90 modem (it's sometimes cheaper than $10), connect it to the phoneline and use the program from majorgeeks.com that records telephone talks straight into mp3 format. Sorry, I forgot the name of the proggie... But it's there for sure, I saw it was available for d/l for free 2 days ago.

EDIT: Looks like I found it. This one has 30-day trial -- link.. There're also a few others of the sort.
