Help, recommend a good VIA KT266A Motherboard (ABIT,SOYO,MSI,...)

Hello guys, I am on the search for KT266A motherboards, upgrading from ALi , anyways I have been searching and came up with three choices that were also able to be purchased locally in Canada.

My three choices

1) SOYO K7V Dragon+
http://www.soyousa.com/syk7vdragonp.html
Very cool board, lots of good features integrated.

2) ABIT KR7A-Raid
http://www.abit-usa.com/eng/product/mb/kr7a-133r.htm
Nice benchmarks I have seen at and AT, this board was ranked GOLD from AT with some high overclocking capabilities. Cool with 4 DIMMs, but I don't think I will use it up until I am 16.

3) MSI K7T266 PRO2-RU
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/K7T266pro2-RU.htm
I do like the USB2 ports and the RED Ferrari PCB.

Thanks, I would appreciate your input.

Current specification:
AMD Thunderbird 1.33GHz AXIA K
Crucial PC2100 256MB DDR SDRAM
IWILL KA-266R
Maxtor ATA100 40GB Diamond Max
Quantum ATA66 20GB Fireball CX

I am leaning towards ABIT or SOYO

I just have to say that I purchased my ASUS A7V266E and I just want to hug it. I've been having so may problems with my last ABIT that I finally went back to the ASUS boards. It is sooo nice to have a board that is reliable. I read the write up that this site gave on the round up and while it seems you can do more with the Soyo I'd still have to say that I love this board.
Best of luck with what ever you choose.

i'd recommend the MSI if i didn't just get my Soltek SL75DRV4.. running amazing.. and purchased in Canada too btw... excellent mobo... recommended!

It all depends, SOYO if you are after stable, moderately clockable and feature-packed solution (its awesome , mine runs at 146 MHz)
Epox for clockability and price (dirt cheap)
Abit seem to be the rage when it comes to xtreme clocking, but it would demand premium gear to support it (ie high q memory)

What are you after?

Can you raid 2 non identical harddrives?

I am gearing towards the ABIT or the SOYO...

The Soyo doesn't offer much new features ie USB 2 or ATA 133, but it has lotza built in stuff.
The ABIT KR7A-R has the ATA133 but I dont think I'll purchase a new harddrive in a while...

So I want like, cool, good features, moderate overclocking definately stable.

I wont be using the USB2 for a while nor ATA 133... bit I want reliability

Who has better RMA , Driver Updates, Technical Support, Stability, Moderate Overclocking (Not hardcore, just 1.33GHZ Axia K + FOP38 😀

Thanks

For the money and what you wrote about clockability, I'd go with soyo

I come from ABIT myself, having owned the sweet, sweet BX6 and the KT7A-RAID myself.
Alas, for the money involved, I found it really hard to beat the soyo, specially as I intended to
use the built in features like LAN and Audio, selling of the parts together with the Abit-board.

SOYO is hard to beat, but if you have a net-card and good audiocard...well I'd go with ABIT, they are tops.

I've had no problems with my MSI K7T Pro2 RU, haven't tried the raid yet though, but I expect to get another hd soon. The board is stable and has nice features, I'll definitely recommend it.
It oc's great too, had my 1600+ at 1680Mhz, lasted a couple of hours before crashing. The most stable seem to be around 1600 though, I'll keep looking for the sweet spot.

That's a shame, you pay through the nose..

Never let price be a factor in choosing a good stable OC'ing board. The Abit SoftMenuIII is awesome. Individual settings for FSB and RAM speeds. Get what you really want based on reviews, not what everyone else wants you to get because they have one.

BTW- I have an Abit KR7A-Raid133. It is my second Abit board (KT7-Raid was my first). Both were up and running without a hitch in a matter of hours. If you have good luck and feel comfortable with a particular brand, just do your homework first. Look here in the forum and see what boards are posted a lot. Typically the boards with the most "Help me Please"posts are troublesome ones.

and just why not? my last 2 boards (cheaper than Asus, ABIT, Soyo) were awesome OCing boards.. my Soltek just dropped in price down to 155 dollars Cdn, from 168 when I got it... and I couldn't imagine having a better mobo.. paying that much more for a diff. mobo is pointless. mine has great vcore adjust, DDR voltage adjust, aaaaaallllll the good things.. it's fantastic 🙂

Personally I would get the cheaper of the boards because it doesn't sound like you'd be using any of their features and that's the main difference between these boards. I have the MSI pro2 and it's great. I can't help including this pic 🙂 Good luck.

i have the ABIT kt7-raid and its really nice... every stable and overclocks like a champ!!!! i got my duron 650@1000 and its rock solid.

i also have an Asus A7V133 and i like it because its simple, but to tell u the truth, i dont like it, it sucks. i have had alot of problems overclocking the bastard and heat issues and unstablility at high overclocks. i can only get my athy-c 1.2 @ 1.333 stable. it was doin 1500 but for some reason after a couple of days it crashed... im guessing i need better cooling. any how..

i went back to my ABIT and got the abit KR7A (non-raid, and its non-raid because i know the KT333 is coming and i want to up grade to that board, just waiting for the entire FSB to be 333 and not just the memory) im about to put it together this weekend!!! cant wait just waiting on memory!!

PRICE is good too... its 116$ @ newegg now, so my suggestion is go with something good but not feature packed b/c the 333 is just around the corner!!!!!!
