help! recognizing raid array on win98...

hi,

first off, system specs:
Antec SX-1040
Athlon xp 1700+
Soyo k7v Dragon plus
aiw radeon 8500dv
acer 56K fax/data modem
lite-on 16x48x dvd-rom
Sound Blaster Audigy oem
crucial 512MB PC2100
Mitsumi 4804TE
2 x Maxtor 60GB hdd
2 x WD 120GB hdd

i've got the 2 maxtor's in raid 0, with the onboard promise fasttrak 100 controller from the soyo board. it's enabled in the bios, the drivers installed fine, and the Promise Fastcheck utility says everything is a-ok. but windows 98 doesn't seem to recognize it (it's not win98SE, just win98); when i go to 'my computer' the drive doesn't show up. anyone know where i went wrong?

don't know if this help any, but in the device manager under disk drives, in the Promise 2+0 Stripe/RAID0 properties, it says the device is working properly, but under the options in settings, the drive letter box is blanked out, and so are the "Int 13 unit" (that one's checked) and the "auto insert notification" (unchecked). The boxes that i can modify are "disconnect", "sync data transfer", and "removable". the ones that were checked by default were the "disconnect" and "sync data transfer" boxes. i unchecked the dissconnect box, but it still doesn't work.

anyone out there with any suggestions?

Do you need to fdisk and format the drives?

i hope not. they're from my other computer and i want to save that data....
