HELP! really need help wtih comp error!

my just recent prom date has a prob with her comp, and i tried fixing it today. it seems to be that her internet got hijacked and she had a ton of spyware and adware. i cleaned all that out using the programs cws shredder, spyhunter, and adaware. then, i upgraded the xp again to make sure the windows files are good again, but once that's done, the browser doesnt work still. i know its online, cuz AIM still works and etc. the only way to browse the web is by opening a folder and typing in the url from there. now, the comp crashes and lags a ton (its been doing this before the internet prob, but then i fixed it after reformat). can u guys please tell me how to fix all this and how to prevent this from happening in the future? i'm very sure its not a hardware prob also.

Boot from the CD and repair her installation. If that doesn't fix it, have the CD in hand and run sfc /scannow.

not sure if you tried out hijackthis? also are there any programs that are eating up memory in the taskmgr?

her comp was working fine while i was workin on it, except for the browser, but then after i left, she was using the comp and then it starting freezing, crashing, and was super laggy. there werent any other apps running that slow down the comp. i'm guessing sum sort of virus corrupted some files. its happend a few weeks ago, but then i did a reformat, and it was fine. i dont want to keep reformatting her comp every time something like this happens, but it seems as tho i might to this time. i've tried reinstalling internet explorer 6 twice, and it still doesnt work. i've run several programs and cleared many "malicious" and "bad" files.
