Is this person posting from MD or is it just that their ISP is there? When I look at my logs, their address is "username"@localhost.com "username" is just a space filler to hide their real address.

# ARIN WHOIS database, last updated 2004-04-02 19:15
# Enter ? for additional hints on searching ARIN's WHOIS database.

The registrar Network Solutions Incorporated (NSI) is not permitting nic.com to forward your whois query to their server. If you see a message above beginning "The IP address from which you have visited Network Solutions Registrar WHOIS database . ." and do not see ownership information about the domain, you must contact NSI (US toll free telephone number 1-888-642-9675, from outside the USA (703) 742-0914, or email whoisquery@networksolutions.com) for ownership information about that domain.

Nope, that's just the ISP - direcpc's registrar info.

Just like if I tracert my IP address, I get my ISP's domain name... and that's essentially who you "WHOIS'd".

Well you can't WHOIS ip addresses... only domain names... and domain names go through name servers which are webhosts/ISPs.

The only thing I can think of ... a scenario like you describe is if the person's IP address (domain name) was their own webserver they run at "home" and have some sort of dedicated pipe.

Thanks again. The other IPs I am running a resolve tool on come back with local addresses. I assumed I was on to something but they apprently just have local ISPs. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
