Help reading guitar tabs..

Im a noobie to guitars. I know like 3 intros to some metallica songs, a few chords and thats about it. Im trying to learn some easy guitar tabs that sound good, and tried learning the begining to disarm by smashing pumpkins. I only use the 4 or 5 star tabs off of ultimate-guitar. Anyways i found theese 2 hereTab1 and then this one they are both different, but my question is on the first one i linked to, when iam strumming it, to i strum back in forth as in up and down continuously or do i only strum in one direction?

Whatever feels most comfortable for you. For the chords that are close together, strumming up and down is easier.
