HELP: Random monitor display loss

In the middle of a processing, the monitor goes blank or says "Out of Range". Computer appears to continue running, music continues playing etc. This was happening with a KDS Rad-7, so I switched monitors/computers and the same thing happens with a Viewsonic 15" LCD. I updated drivers for the video card and monitor. Temps seem to be normal so I don't know where to look next. I'm gonna try switching cards this weekend (dad's comp). Any thoughts till then? Thanks.

He doesn't know :/

He did say he waited a while before telling me. If it was working correctly, it couldn't have been for more than a couple weeks. The monitor is a month old.
