OK which RAM OCing souds better? (faster)

3.0e P4C800 dex. running @ 3.4 (230 FSB)

OCZ Enhanced latency PC3200 dual ch. 512 ea.

1. DRAM frequency 230 (1:1)
2.5-3-3-6

----------------------------------------

2. DRAM frequency 180 (5:4)
2-3-2-6

1 or 2? which is major factor in OCing? DRAM frequency or RAM timing?

DO
NOT
GO
PRESCOTT

Seriously go with a Northwood please. Much better chip.

But P4's like high fsb's....so I would go with the 1:1

You aren't going to get that OCZ to run 2.5-3-3-6 at 230! OCZ is great ram, but it doesn't overclock all that well. Besides, you'd be much better off at 250fsb, with a 5:4 ram divider, which would leave your PC3200 ram running at 200 mhz at 2-3-2-6, and your processor running at 3.5ghz. Then you'd have a system!;)

He said a 3.0 though...which I don't see making to 250 fsb. But I agree that ram shouldn't be able to hit 230 especially with those timings.

If you havent already bought the chip....get a 2.8C and crank her up to 250 fsb w/ the 5:4 divider.

In both cases the FSB is the same at 230 and the only difference is the memory speed.

So why don t you just run a series of benchmarks and check for yourself?

running below 400ddr sux on a p4 system.
even if he runs truely tight timings (c222) 5:4 360ddr is gonna sux.
its a "no contest" at 230fsb ~ he needs to run 1:1.

besides ~ Prescotts sux too ;)

Oops, he did say 3.0E! But hey, you can get a 3.0C to 250fsb. That's only 3.75ghz.;)

Uh.... that spec is my currenct setting. #.1

well I know that prescott can be very HOT, but I have good cooling case.

Keeping it well under 55C :-l <---- Good 4 air cooled OCed prescott don't u think?

Thermaltake Xaser damier (6 fans) is great case 4 OCing

And YES! you can run PC3200 OCZ RAMs @ 230. been keeping this setting 4 like a week now

----------> UPDATE NVM My RAM can't handle 230 cuz I was playing FARCRAY and it just crashed. :-(

anyway this OCZ RAM is awesome!

Well, just reaching 230fsb with that memory in dual channel is a wonder in itself :)

How do u check memory timings and what do those numbers mean? EG: "2.5-3-3-6" what the hell does that mean lol? What is a GOOD timing and what is a BAD timming? How do I judge that?
