Help! Raid5 isn't recognized by Highpoint 404.

Hey guys,

got a situation where I had 3 80gb Drives in RAID5 arrangement using the Highpoint 404 RocketRaid v3.01 one of the drives crapped out. I used the Highpoint Windows Array managment tool and the event browser mentioned that that specific drive broke down last week. When i rebooted, the highpoint BIOS utility came up and only 1 of the drives (of the 3) was labeled as part of that RAID5 system. I've attached a 4th drive to the controller and am wanting to REBUILD the RAID5 system but I can't get the BIOS utility to recognize the 2 good RAID5 drives so that it can go through the rebuild process. So my question is :

1) how do i "name" the 2nd drive so that the Highpoint software "knows" that there is enough info to "rebuild" the array to the 3rd disk?

2) ANy clue as to what i can do, I have about 1.5 months of pretty crucial data on the drives so I guess i'm pretty desperate. the funny thing is that I purchased a DVD writer last week and it should be arriving on my doorstep tomorrow. I bought it to backup the tons of datafiles that I have.

3) Anyone know of technicians that would be willing to "fix" RAID 5 setups? Does this seem feasible?

Thanks in advance!

I've tried a couple of HD configurations.

currently the configuration is as such - ch3-Ma + ch3-Sl + ch4-Ma

Ch3-Ma is "bad" and IS showing that its connected to RAID5 array.
Ch3-Sl is ok but not showing that its connected to RAID5 array
Ch4-Ma is ok and now its not showing that its connected to RAID5 Array.

ch4-Sl - new 80gb drive I'm wanting to use for the rebuild. Yes, it recognizes all the drives properly when first entering the BIOS utility. I'm assuming this is OK to do. If not, I'll try putting it on its own channel.

1) I installed a 4th IDE drive as ch4-Sl along with the other 3 hoping to use it for rebuilding. Can't because RAID5 array of disks is not setup properly.

2) I disconnected Ch3-Ma (the bad drive) and installed the 4th IDE drive. Now not recognizing the existence of that RAID5 array that i once had. No way to "rebuild" since RAID5 array doesn't exist.

I'm hoping there's an easy way to "label" the RAID5 array drives such that the highpoint BIOS recognizes the previously working RAID5 array. The data should still be there since i haven't modified the drives at all, i just need something that will allow the software to recognize the hardware....

Anyone know of any low-level method of "assigning" or "renaming" a hard drive to a specific array configuration?

Thanks,

Regis
