HELP!!! Purchasing Laptop

Hello everyone
I would like some advise on purchasing a laptop.

Unfortunately I just found out yesterday my desktop is not sufficient for my needs.

I have been wanting a vinyl cutting machine and finally purchased one now to not be able to use it :s

The laptop will basically just be used for my vinyl cutting machine (silhouette Cameo), high school assignments & basic surfing the Internet like FB and local buy and sell sites
as no one in the house does any gaming or heavy use on it

Would this be sufficient for my needs

Why wont the desktop work? What is it missing? That laptop is really slow and although it may be new it will be slower than a great many old desktops.

If you don't need a device that can be moved with ease, you should get a desktop, it's much more powerful.

I like laptops because I can carry them with me, but for "hard work" I'll take a desktop over 10 laptops (unless they are very very powerful)
