Help purchasing a notebook

Sorry if this is in the wrong section- mods can of course move if neccesary.

I will soon be entering my Freshman year of college, and I'm left with the conundrum of whether to purchase a new notebook. I currently have a HP dv6700, which is really quite inept when it comes to gaming etc (plus it runs the dreaded vista).

Are there any notebooks currently on the market, for a reasonable price (money is of course a key issue) that are both cost-effective and could manage some gaming? I'm not a hardcore gamer, and I know notebooks are not exactly supposed to be used for gaming, but I've always loved the Elder Scrolls series and I would really like to get a laptop that could handle Oblivion. Any ideas?

Looking in the 500-1300 range price-wise.

And I know you get questions like this all the time, I'm sure, but any help would of course be duly appreciated.

Envy 14 is good ($999 with i5 and ATI 5650) as well as Envy 15 ($1200 with i5, ATI 5830, and 1080P screen).

Could get an 15.6 Acer with i5 and ATI5650 those were as low as $680. Currently Microsoft store is having a big 40% sale on certain laptops so you might want to check out the hotdeals section or slickdeals or fatwallet for more info.
