I have an ASUS A7V mobo..which I recently configured. I havent used any of the Ultra ATA100 sockets (Both primary and Secondary) on the mobo to hook up any HDDs or the other IDE devices. But whenever I load Win98 it stops after the Logo screen with the error message "Windows prtotection error. Please restart your computer". Now the next time I restart i go to he safe mode...and remove the "Promise Ultra ATA device" from the "SCSI devices" under the Device Manager..reboot and then it works fine...on Win98 booting up the system asks for the drivers for the ATA Controller again bt I go on cancelling it...and then everything works fine....till I reboot again.!!!!

By the way I ahve using the 1004c as the BIOS version...and yes I disabled the Onboard ATA option under the Boot menu.

I had also tried setting up the Promise Ultra controller with the latest drivers..and am runnign into the same problem ...

Appreciate any input

Thanks

Install the version 1.6 Build 25 of the promise

and the VIA 4in1

If it's not working so use the promise

it's the best
