how can I make these speakers louder! there doesn't seem to be much difference between my previous 4.1 and my new 5.1 in terms of volume. Where can I really take advantage of the new 8" Subs and the 500w! Also according to the manual I have the volume controls in windows turned up to 75%. Lastly is it normal for the external control tower to be set to 50 or so for an average volume. It seems that you have to crack it kinda high especially since the max is 80... Its hard to explain.

Thanks,
Frozen

The difference between 400 watt and 500 watt is not enough to be able to hear -- most of the time. Most people can not hear a distinct difference in sound level until it is about 3db. louder. To make it 3db. louder, it takes one of two things.

1. Double the amplifier power, and this assumes that the speakers are capable of the increased power and can use it.

2. Double the size or quantity of speakers, and this assumes that the amp is capable of handling the increased load of the speakers on it.

So, going from 6" to 8" sub and from 400 to 500 watt, will not make a "noticeable" difference (all else being the same). It will probably be able to play a slightly lower frequency, and the extra power may let it play with less distortion, but there won't be a "knock your socks off" difference.

Bump windows volume on everything to 90 %. 75% isn't enough. Don't worry you won't get any distortion by bumpin up the windows volume. Now everything should be much better and you can lower the volume on your satellites.

First of all, the extra (so-called) 100 watts is for the additional speaker (the center channel). Second of all, I doubt that these things put out a true 500 watts of power. I've seen the sub and it's impossible.

BTW.. What OS are you using?
