HELP! I assembled a new system using a Microstar KT7APRO and Athlon 1200 processor. Clearly everything has power, the hard disk spins up etc. the floppy will run continuously if the floppy cable is in backwards, etc. but it won't boot. The diagnostic LEDs don't light up at all but I get no voice message from the speaker as the manual implies I should get. I removed and reseated the CPU and heatsink, but to no effect. Any ideas as to what could be wrong??

Your power case may be the source of the problems. Some Athlon CPUs are power drains. There is an article on Anandtech somewhere that talks about power supplies and Athlon CPUs...check it out. You may want to buy a "Athlon approved" power supply and case.

I am more inclined to think it's an issue of jumpers and wirings. You may want to double- and triple-check your jumper settings and also make sure your LEDs are hooked up to the mobo correctly. If you still get the same results, you may want to invest in a better PSU. Then again, you may want to invest in a better PSU anyway... :)

(Still me under a diff. login name)

The PS is a brand new Enermax 330. Don't think they get better than that...

The LEDs are part of the motherboard -- nothing to wire. If the CPU were blown, they should all light up red, but I get nothing at all. The MB must have power as all periferals (fans, hard disk, etc...) work just fine.

HELP!!!

Try to boot w/out CPU.
If signals errors fine, otherwise the mobo may be dead.

I had this exact same thing happen to me. AMD 1.2 Iwill motherboard. I looked at everything and could not find why my system was like yours. Then the light bulb went on, check the ram and make sure it is seated all the way. My ram was in and the retainers were locked in so I doubted that it was the ram. However I used a little more force on the ram and wouldn't you know it, there was a small pop and the ram seated a little further. I exited the bios and rebooted, whalla it booted right up.

Hope this helps.

Double check the seating of your Motherboard....I made a mistake once where I put in two extra brass screws at the bottom thinking it would help stabilize the board. It ended up shorting the Mobo preventing anything from booting up.

I had a mobo like yours that shows diagnostic LEDs and it wouldn't even power up. If this doesn't work, try taking out all the cards and memory and inserting one by one...sooner or later you'll come to the culprit.

The LEDs don't show any error coe at all. That's why I am stumped. I removed the RAM, cards, everything, but still zip. Is it really bad to have too many brass screws? That can short out a M/B?
