I have an MSI Turbo-R (running B16 bios) and SB Live! Value.

Whenever I play DVD's, Game's or MP3's my system automatically reboots. I am running Win2k with SP2. I did have the latest VIA drivers (ver 4.31 to be exact) installed, but had to uninstall it due to my computer not being able to get past the splash screen. It would just sit there with the status bar at 50%. If I removed the card and rebooted, the system would boot into windows without any problems (except now I didn't have sound). I uninstalled the VIA Drivers and reinstalled the SB Live! and rebooted. Of course it booted into Windows without any problems. Now im back to my problem of the automatic reboots.

I have also tried reinstalling the latest Live!Ware software and drivers from Creative, but they don't seem to help. I have uninstalled the SB Live! and reverted back to the on-board sound, and everything seems to work fine (except, when I use the onboard sound, I can hear a crackling sounds whenever the DVD light flashes while playing a DVD. -- ain't that a bitch)

Now, im starting to get discouraged with using SB Live's and the MSI Turbo-R (actually any MSI boards). Unfortunately these are not the only problems I have encountered with this combo or the MSI Turbo-R.

Sorry to bitch so much, but here we go, onto more problems regarding the MSI Turbo-R:

For some odd reason my main CPU fan connector on the motherboard died. Meaning that the CPU fan does not turn on when the computer powers up. At first I thought it was the CPU fan (which in this case is a ThermoEngine with a 7k RPM Delta fan) that died on me so I removed the fan/heatsink to test with a stock fan I had lying around. When I booted the system, I had the same results with this fan. The fan did not move. I know this fan works, I just took it off to replace it with the ThermoEngine so I can get better cooling. Since that fan did not work on the mobo fan connector, I removed the fan and placed it on the other mobo fan connector, and when I booted the system the fan worked. So I tried the ThermoEngine again, and that one worked when I booted the system. Since the fan connector was further away from the CPU socket, I had to get my trusty soldering iron and extended the wire to the other mobo fan connector. I had this setup running for about two weeks or so, until I started getting warnings on the CPU sensor indicating that the fan RPM's were dropping. At first it was at 6k RPM, then 5K, 4K and then it just stopped. So, before I burn up my CPU, I turned off the computer to see what the problem was. Of course it was the same problem I just experience with the other mobo fan connector. No fan rotation when I powered on my computer. Damn.

What I did, was took the molex connector from my older case fan and busted-out my trusty soldering iron and connected the CPU fan (using the small red and black wires) to a standard molex connector, while the third wire from the CPU fan was still intact and connected to the mobo sensor. Now my ThermoEngine is running at full 7k RPM's, which of course makes it a hell of alot louder than before. (I just can't win).

Of course I could have just RMA'ed the mobo through MSI, but I couln't wait 2-3 weeks for them to fix my mobo, while having no computer in take it's place. Plus I couldn't really understand the customer service rep. DOH!

Anyways, if anybody can suggest any solutions to any of my probs, I would love to hear your comments. Next time I may go with an ASUS board or something, they seem more stable. Does anyone want to buy an MSI Turbo-R. It runs like new =).. just kidding.

Does anyone know when the A7V266 (the 266 DDR mobo - I think that was the model #) will be released?

Well, back to my MSI sorrows.

If you have read this far, I thank you very much for your time and attention. =]
