yo...what up guys. i'm trying to install a philips seismic edge into my friends comp. he computer has abnomarly low sound output, we tried a lot things, but never figured out what it was, but we came to the conclusion that a fulfledged sound card might fix the problem. So the actual sound card installatiion was fine, but the software and drivers were not. First off, i could not get rid of all the nvidia drivers or software to go away, that the on board sound. Second, the software and drivers that the philips seismic edge came with didn't work. Installing anything off the installlation cd just froze the comp, and dl'ed software/drivers just lead to this problem: installation would start, than stop with the message that philips seismic edge's drivers may already be installed and the comp needs to restarted to finish installation. doing as instructed would achieve nothing, and trying to re-install woud lead to the same thing again. here are the comps from my friends comp:

amd 2600+
MSI K7N2 Delta-L
Maxtor 20 & 80 gig hd's
512 DDR 400 memory
ATI 9600 Pro

Why don't you remove the Philip's card,
boot into Safe mode & remove any references to the onboard sound
and the Philip's card.
Reboot normally with the onboard sound disabled.
Shut down & install the Philip's card.
(make sure the software doesn't tell you to install it first before putting the card in)
YMMV
Just guessing.
