HELP.. problem with writing to boot sector!

I got the rest of my computer parts today and put them together without any problems, but when I tried to install windows I've ran into a glitch.

When I was finished making a partition, it gave me an error of "Boot Sector Write! Virus: continue Y/N?
it let me continue but then it gave me the message again and froze when windows was loading its wizard to install 98.

I did try repartitioning again, but this time at the error prompt i chose no, and it gave me a dialog box saying that windows could not write to the boot sector.

I'm hoping I missing some settings and that i don't have a virus or dead hard drive.

No problem.

In your BIOS, there is an option, something like "Enable virus protection" or "Boot sector protection". This means that when BIOS detects a request to write data to the HD's boot sector, it shows a warning - exactly like the one you described. Turn this option OFF in BIOS, and you will not be getting that warning anymore. In fact. Microsoft tells you to turn it off if you want to install Windows.

Good luck.
