HELP! Problem with office XP.

I need to type and essay and I need to use a lab computer as mine is currently dead. But there are strange tick marks at the edge of the borders in the shape on right angles doing away from the center of the page. I can post an image but I don't know how to or wher to host it.

As stupid as it sounds, they are driving me nuts and I cannot type with them there. This is with the print layout which I also need to use.

I know this sounds stupid but I still can't type like this. I have been trying for over an hour to fix this problem without success.

If anybody has any idea what is going on and how to fix it PLEASE help me. Basicaly I just want to have a completely blank white sheet to type on without any kind of border marks or anything else.

Just to clarify more about these marks.

Think that there is a rectengular border around the entire page with the edges at the margins of the page. Now extend the lines outward about half and inch at the intersections. Now remove the original rectengulat border and you are left with right angales opening away from the center of the page.

These are only to show the border as they don't print (I don't think so anyways as they are dimmed slightly) but they are very distracting and annoying to the pint were I cannot concentrate enough to type on that page.

And something else, I can see what column I am on but for some reason the line number does not work and is dimmed.

you could type in notepad and cut and paste into word when you are done. then you can do some editing if you need to.
 
Actualy I am doing something like that, jsut with wordpad instead of notepad, but this is still a very tedious process and I would realy like to know how to fix the view jsut in case I might need to use the lab computers at a later time. I am quite sure this is some simple setting barried somewere deep. And if I go to shadows and border settings, I do see these lines on the corners of the preview images and yet I don't see a setting to remove them.

Also what could possibly cause the line numbers not to work and let the column numbers to work perfectly. Is it possible that the two settings are connected somehow.
