Help!! problem with my Maxtor DM Plus 45GB

My 45GB IBM 75GXP just died today (what a surprise!) and deceided to sell the replacement on egay and get a 45GB Maxtor Diamond Max Plus. After I installed everything I ran Sandra on my new HD. I only got a score of about 18500. With my IBM I would always get at least 24500. Nothing in my system has changed just the Hard drive. I've also turned off acustic management. Anyone got any suggestions?

sandra isnt a good benchmarker. on my previous ideraid, i get stupid scores of 60k. use hdtach [though thats not a very good one etheir]

what did you do to get the replacement...was it through manufacturers?
