Hi all,

My computer with 8KNXP mobo just went dead for some reason. I was just browsing on the net and all of a sudden it just went dead.

Took out every components (Actually only VGA and memories) to swap with my other AMD64 system to verify the working status and both seems to be functional. Tested the CPU with my friend's P4 system and it also running fine. Swap the PSU and still no go. Didn't test the HDD's yet because if HDD's are the problem my system should still boot to the bios screen.

My system is consist of the following,

GA-8KNXP rev.1
Intel P4-2.8CGHz
OCZ PC-4000 EL
ATI 9800 Pro 128MB AGP
2 x WD1200JB HDD in raid 0 (PATA)
Everything else on board

So now I think I narrow down the problem to the mobo, what do you guys think?

If it's indeed the mobo, I am going to make some upgrades including CPU, VGA and HDD with the current technolgy. But there are lot of stuff I didn't backup from my current raid0 HDD's, what do I do? Newer mobo has raid build-in but it won't read the old raid0 array right?

Please help!!!

Did you make any recent changes? It;s very unlikely to be the hard drives, however did you try powering up with the hard drives disconnected? Did you try booting with the bare minumums? Video card, CPU/hsf, and 1 stick of memory(unplug everything else, including keyboard/mouse, I have actualy seen a keyboard cause a computer not to boot)? Have you tried resetting the CMOS?

No, I didn't change anything recently. I tried every method you mentioned except resetting the CMOS.

Right after my system went dead, I turn it back on again and it will freeze at the boot screen. So I thought it may be caused by bad memeory, so I took out one stick and reboot it. Same problem, freeze at the boot screen. Swap the memory sticks and still the same.

Now the system won't boot at all with everything disconnected; all the drives, no keyboard/mouse, USB devices.

Can another brand of raid controller reads the array created by this Gigaraid controller?

Tks for your input.

Well it sounds like the motherboard is dead. Unfortunatly no, another brand of raid conroller won't be able to read your current raid array. It would have to be the same controller.

I am afraid that's the case, thanks for your help. Looks like I need to either RMA or just buy another one to get the files out:(

I think so too. Sent it back to Gigabyte last week, glad it's still under warranty.

Yea same... also hoping they still have these boards to replace mine (ours) with as the best 478 board available from Gigabyte these days is very unimpressive :disgust:.
