I just biult my first computer about 3 weeks ago. This is what I have in it,
DFI Ultra d mobo
AMD 64 3700
480w psu
ocz gold vx 3200 2x512
BFG 6800gt

Now heres the problem at hand. I had my comp on last night and everything was fine. When I got up this morning and went to turn the thing on it beeped like crazy. I looked at my mobo manual and look at the led indicator and it said that the cpu was not being detected. I dunno what to do, I have a css match tomorrow and I need to play. A couple of days ago I changed my voltage from 2.6w to 4w on my ram. I dunno if that would have done anything to the cpu. I really dont even kno if it is the cpu and all. I tried to take of the cpu fan but didn't think it was comming off or even if i should take it off. If i shouldn't please tell me cause im really thinking about it.

DOH! Noobie overclocker! You Fried your memory controller, Kiss that CPU Goodbye! Don't even think of RMA'ing it, it's your fault.

4V you meant? It's Volts not Watts
4 Volts will kill anything -_-

OCZ VX only warranty up to 3.5V. Why did you go above that?
Gold VX garantees to work at fastest timing at 3.2V. You don't actually need to go that high...

May your CPU RIP...
(btw just to point out if you don't already know, the memory controller for the new AMD CPUs are on the CPU itself.)

Anything you do to your Memory will have an effect on your memory controller. That goes for bandwith, voltages, cas, etc. Those two parts are tied toghther so you essentialy forced twice the recomended power through your CPU.

4v is way too high for the ram first of all, so your ram is probably fried, and since the memory conroller for the ram is in the CPU for A64, you probably killed the CPU as well.

Not true some ram chips can run at 4 volts, like OCZ VX. But just because your ram can take it does not mean your Memory controller will. This is why I am an oponent of overclocking, your computer was fast, but now it does not work. Was "OC'ing" really worth it?

I don't know about that. OCZ VX are warrantied up to 3.5V only. The performance of 2-2-2-5 250FSB is garranteed at 3.2V. 4V sounds too high even for VX

Guns dont kil,l people do. It's not DFI's fault, he needs to take responisbilty for his actions. My car can go over 180 MPH, but if I wreck it I think i will blame Mercedes for the accident; Since they should not have made a care that could go that fast.

You are correct, thanks for settng my memory streight.

From OCZ Website:
* OCZ EVP® (Extended Voltage Protection) is a feature that allows performance enthusiasts to use a VDIMM of 3.5V ± 5% without invalidating their OCZ Lifetime Warranty.

**ULN2 (Ultra Low Noise) technology uses various printed circuit board (PCB) techniques to reduce the amount of electrical noise that is present in all high-speed ICs. This results in faster and more stable memory.

*OCZ VX series is not recomended for use on legacy nForce 2 platforms*

Factor in the alowed 5% voltage tolerance and OCZ VX can top out at a calculated 3.675 Volts before the warrenty is violated.

I know. Trying to comfort the poor soul there :p
Though DFi would be nicer to include warning messages either in BIOS or the manual.

4v for VX memory is way too high. Technically, you should only need 3.2v - 3.3v to run 2-2-2-5 at the guaranteed speed. 3.5v + 5% is the absolute max these chips need. Like everyone said here, you probably killed the memory controller and your CPU.

Stick to buying a Dell or Alienware, dude you do not know what you are doing and should not be allowed to purchase PC parts witout a licence.

True, however, if you are cooling your CPU well and have active cooling on your RAM you can push 4v for benching through VX or BH-5.

You are correct, however, the average person who just built their first computer probably isn't going to go all out with active cooling on their memory to benchmark. High voltage memory is always geared towards enthusiasts and normal every day end-users probably shouldn't go for this memory.

You definitley need to replace the CPU. Try the RAM at 2.6v at 2-3-3-8 timings on another computer to see if that got killed too.

is there anyway that I could maybe get it replaced by amd for free, or will they not even try taking it back or replacing it. Anything i could say to them.

I'm positive that your warranty is now voided by overvolting your memory controller. Honestly, I would just chalk this up as a learning experience and buy another CPU.

I sent my cpu to amd and it came back aok. I tried starting my comp agian and I found out that just one of my ram sticks got burnt. I sent It back to ocz and they gave me a new one right away. So I guess I got lucky eh?
