Help-problem with Acrtic Silver 3 cooling.

Hello, about a 10 days ago, I applied Acrtic Silver. My temp at idle are running at about 53C. I my computer has been running atleast for about 100 hrs. since and I still see no improvement. Do you think I should reapply? I'm thinking I should apply a thicker coat on the die. I'm always worried about putting too much compound on the die, thinking the over application will "kill" my CPU.

I see in your sig you have a Lanboy, apparently they have some cooling issues so check what your case temps are also.

i have a related question:
i rebuilt a machine and was anal about the AS application and initially it was fine - 46C idle [with hot summer days and m/b temp 28C] when it was around 51-53C before....

on day 3 i did a cpu burn-in test in sisoft sandra to look at the load temps and they were also much better at 55C when they had been 64C before...
but since then my idle temps remain higher [51C]....

any thoughts why or what i could do about it?

Summer always brings in the AS3 application question it seems.

Honestly, your ambient temperature has a lot to do with the temps. It can have a 5-10C difference sometimes even though your ambient goes up as little as 2-3C. Trust me on that one. Another possibility is that when you measure the temp it's not completely idle yet, maybe it's still recovering. And one more that I can think of, if your temps are increasing after you put the AS3 on instead of decreasing from the "settle-in period" then it must be that fans are failing or you moved your computer around to a LAN party and slightly threw the heatsink off about .25mm or something. It could be a lot of things guys and honestly 46 idle and 58C load isn't bad, it's summer and when it's 90F-100F out there you gotta expect those temps... unless you're rich and have l337 AC.
