Hi
I just got what seems to be a kick ass lap top - an HP DV9207US...I have never had a laptop before, and I am really enjoying this one...The problem is that the boot up is slow because a lot of preloaded software is coming up on each boot.....I did not see the area to remove this software in the remove software area....Is there some secret squirrel place that HP installs this software that the end user can find and delete all this stuff?? Thanks a ton!!

What is the OS, Vista or XP.

Next up, the software that it comes with should be able to be removed from the Control Panel.

If you continue to run into problems...

Start -> Run -> "msconfig"
Jump over to the startup tab and uncheck stuff that seems like it shouldnt be there. Do be wary about unchecking the wrong thing though.

If you just got the laptop and haven't installed anything of your own on it yet, you might be better off wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows and drivers yourself. Your HP laptop should come with 2 discs, 1 labelled "operating system" and the other "drivers and applications". Use the OS CD to reinstall Windows, and after that's finished pop in the D/A CD and install just the drivers.

I'm guessing you're having trouble because the old 'Add/Remove Programs' icon in XP has been changed to something else in Vista. Open the control panel and switch it to 'Classic View' using the link on the left side of the window. Look for an icon called something like 'Programs...' lower down. That's where you can uninstall stuff.

I know this because I did exactly this on a DV9207NR yesterday. Nice laptop, I love that new imprinting HP is using.

Agree with the OP.

Most cookie cutter laptops come with a TON OF BLOATWARE. Two options. Remove each piece of software in Add/Remove programs, or reformat and start over.

That's exactly what I did with my HP DV6500T. It came with Vista Basic and a bunch of Bloatware. I reformatted and put XP on it. Granted I had to go find a bunch of drivers and install them, if you're reading these forums, then you're probably a computer guru and you can do it.

Go on www.notebookreview.com and browse the HP forum. There are threads that show you how to reformat and install XP. Or you can start over with Vista if you want. The DV9000T series started with XP, so all the drivers are on the site.
