Help...Power Outage and My friend's pc stopped working...

Friend's PC:
8rda+ with latest bios
2500+ stock settings
512 hyperX pc3200 ram
g4ti4200
350 Watt Enermax PSU (was onsale for 46.99 at newegg - the ones with gold connectors)

...

His pc was on downloading crap...

then a power outage occured

He pushed the on button, it didn't turn on

So he turned off the computer in the back using the on off button

and then he turned it back on

and then he hit the power buttom

it turned on, but it didn't post

so he turned it off and then took off the panel to see what the motherboard for its error codes

and it read "02" and I beleive that was a memory error

EDIT:

He just reseated the RAM and still 02

Do you think its memory problems? Should I go over and see if my crucial ram will work?

?Ok hey guys its magomago. I'd be in my username but i can't remember my password so i'm on my friend's account

I stuck in my ram and it posts...great

then we booted up windoze and it froze at the splash screen

so i restarted and then tried again using safe mode.

got into safe mode, ran some norton disk check to make sure the hdd is fine...

all is good

restart back to windows

run norton again great

then pc freezes

reboot to windows - it freezes as he is typing the password

now we are booting back into safe mode.

Any ideas what could be causing those random freezes?

right now he is using my 2x256 sticks of pc2700 crucial ram

Also might I add that shutdown/restart takes FOREVER...its ridiculously long

hd is bad.. run a scandisk and then a repair install. but did you say that you changed memory and it booted? might wanna check your memory too. run memtest86 to do that. but it sounds like the hd.. esp if it got interrupted in the midst of a huge operation like that.
