Ok I just got a letter from american express, saying that the credit line of one of my card from them has been reduced, they claim the cause was the following reasons: (these reasons are actually from equifax)
1 balances on your accounts are too high
2 too many inquiries in the last 12 months
3 proportion of your balances to your credit limits is too high on bank revolving or other revolving accounts
4 length of time your accounts have been established is too short
However:
1. I NEVER carry balance on my cc
2. what do they mean by inquiries??? the only credit check thats been done on me I think is when I applied to get a lease for an apartment about a week ago
3. I dont understand what this means?? I am currently not employed (will attend a MBA program soon) maybe this affects me in anyway??? Actually I've only been in the states for 5 years, and I never worked full time, however my credit score is very good, higher than 700
4. I've had this cc for at least 2 years, and I never applied to any ccs recently (in the past year)
Is it possible that I am a victim of identity fraud?? the credit company used by amex is equifax, is it advisable if I pay $10 to get my credit report?? LIke I said, I just applied for a apartment lease, and they ran my credit, which turns out fine (otherwise I wont get the apartment). And also, I had a credit check done about 5 months ago (forgot which credit bureau) and my credit score turned out ok too at the time.
Maybe amex is simply revaluing their credit lines?? or is it a mistake on equifax??
HELP??
EDIT: where can I get truly free credit report?? (none of those free 1 month trial, then have to cancel) a REALLY free credit report.
