Help! Pokemon Sapphire disaster... any way to un-overwrite a game?

Hey all,

My 6 year old son has been playing Pokemon Sapphire for the last few months & had gotten all the way to "level 5" (?) Anyway, he's put quite a bit of hard work into it, but tonight... he accidentally overwrote his game with an empty game that was just at the beginning.

He's pretty upset about it - strike that, devastated about it, so I told him I'd try to see if there's a way to get it back. Basically, I'm hoping for a way to recover the real game that was overwritten by the empty game. Is there any way to do this?

If not, is there a way to quickly get him back to a "level 5" state, even if all of the details/pokemon/points/etc aren't the same?

I'm going to be searching around on the net for the next few hours, but I'll check back in here periodically. I did see a reference to the fact that it saves the "current save" as well as the "last save", but with no more details on how to access the prior save.

Thanks!

pretty sure there is noway to fix this problem, thats why the game asks you if u are positive u want to overwrite

Oh man. Just reading the title made me LMAO. Then you spoiled the fun saying it was for you son 🙁

But anyhow, I really doubt you can restore it. Tell him to build he monsters stronger, faster and even better than before!

Hehe, I thought he was like lvl99 pikachu and then he messed up his game. 😛

lvl5 is nothing, just play it for him till you get back to that level.. you know you want to. 😉

Dude, hes 6 years old...

Thanks guys... that's pretty much what I'm finding out - no way to recover it.

Seems there's a way though to restore .sav files with a special cable... anyone have any experience with this? I was thinking that I could get the cable, find a level 5 .sav on the net and upload it to his cartridge...

I still have a couple of questions though:
1. Can I write to his original cartridge, or would I have to write it to a blank one?
2. Any idea where I can find sapphire .savs out there?

Also, would a gameshark help out much if he has to go though the whole thing again? I think he had racked up around 80 hours over the course of things, so it's a good bit of work...

PING!

Sapphire version half way through the game editable if you get the special cable and rom files that go with it.

This is a zip of the .sav file 🙂

Linky here

Edit: Your a pretty fvckin decent parent! I dont have a dad and my mum didnt exactly make up for that, I envy you... 🙂

Hey - thanks for the compliments guys.... just don't like to see him so bummed out.

Anyway, thanks for the link! I came across that earlier, but I understood it to be a .sav for the GBA emulators on a PC - didn't think I could load them back to the Sapphire cart...

Could you tell me more about the "special cable and rom files" that make it editable - if I can truely write it to his original Sapphire cart, that would be great since I can tweak whatevers in that save to more closely match where he was before!

Thanks!!!

Thanks guys - I had a talk with him this morning & I'm very impressed with how he's handling it!

Basically, I told him there was no way to recover his game, but that there were two ways we could go forward.

1) was to get a backup of a game that was around level 5 & transfer it to his via the Action Replay device. The other was to start over & get to 5 quickly via my helping him with secrets off of the internet and possibly getting an AR and using codes.

He didn't want to play someone elses game & basically wanted to start over again - was very grown up about the whole thing!

Anyway, one last question... he had this favorite pokemon, whose name sounds like "wellvurer"

(I'm sure it's spelled incorrectly). He was given it on a transfer cable by a friend of his who he only sees a couple of times a year.

I haven't seen anything about how to get this particular pokemon on the web, nor have I seen an AR code for it. If anyone knows what the real name is, or how to get it, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Pokemon & disaster? Not sure what that means...

And yep - he did it, I've fessed up to doing some pretty dumb things over the years... wouldn't start fibbing with this one!

It's time to have that talk with your son about the definition of the word pwn3d.

Might be hard but it has to be done.

rotflmao, imagine the mental image:

Dad talks to his sun in a slow and deep voice:

Dad: My son... you have just been pwned.
