Is there really so much of a difference between a Trinitron moniter and a regular moniter that one should put up with starring at annoying lines across the moniter??? I ordered a Trinitron moniter to find that the top and bottom thirds of the screen have lines going accross them. Is this something that is common with Trinitron or is it just the cheap Sony immitation that I got that has these lines?? Am I being too anal?? The screen looks great but I just can't seem to get past those lines (wires that are neccessary according to the literature on the moniter!!!)
Any help with my delima will be greatly appreciated. I can still send the moniter back if I'm not satisfied, and I'm not sure that having those damned lines to look at makes up for the "Trinitron" name.

Thanks in advance for the help!

peace

if you want to keep that monitor, you'll have to grow accustomed to those "lines". it's the price you have to pay for getting a sony trinitron monitor I'm afraid.

bacillus is right. if you don't want "damper wires" then you'll need to find a shadow mask monitor and not an apeture grille monitor.

You'll have to get used it. If not get a different monitor with a different tube. ;)

The trinitron are apeature (sp?) grill tubes, and thus always have the two distinct lines (for some people) about one thirds the way down and up. :)

Good luck with your new monitor. :D

MS Word 2000 is probably the worst progam for making you really notice the lines because of the white documents.

MadMaxxYes they are supposed to be there. I have a brand new KDS Avitron FD Trinitron (17") and wouldn't trade it for anything. I had origanally bought a 19" Magview regular monitor and it was a nasty mess compared to this one. I returned it for the KDS. I would only get a bigger Trinitron - nothing less. I don't see the lines at all unless I look for them. Stop worrying about them and they'll "go away."

if the lines realy bugged you, you should've looked at the monitor before you bought it...
geez...

trinitrons genearly have sharper/more contrast than shadow masks though...

you realy can't see the lines unless you have a white background.

Personally, I only notice the lines when I'm looking for them. Unfortunately the only way for you to get a true flat screen is by using a monitor with the Trinitron or Diamondtron tubes, which use aperture grill.

What about the LG Flatron series, these are flat screens that don`t have wires but are CDT type that use Flat slot mask technology.

Sometimes when I'm on the forums, even when I try to look for the lines I can't see them!

Yeah, they used to really bug me too but I don't even notice them anymore.

If all else fails... use a dark colored desktop. =)

the lg flatron is ugly!
i dunno if you've seen them in person.
i have, i saw the samsung 700nf(trinitron) and the ift (shadowmask) and a flatron side by side for easy compairson..

and well, personly, the flatron was UGLY!!!! the color was dull, and not crisp, it just feels like when your indoors on an overcast day, and theres no sun shining in your room, whereas the trintron is like a bright beautiful day

Maybe you got a bad flattron littleprince, but all the flatrons I've seen do quite well. A bit less vivid than trinis for saturation, but nothing near dull and ugly. I've seen about 4 in use, and use various other monitors at work (Apple Studio displays, Viewsonic PFs) and I've got to say, the LG does quite well against them.

I`m buying my LG 915FT Flatron very soon, yes I`m impressed with the image, colour quality etc, it`s also at a very good price, btw I don`t like those two wires "aperture grill" you get with Diamondtron/Trinitron tubes infact I hate them, apart from this they`re excellent tubes,at the end of the day it`s what your happy with that counts.

After awhile of using one you hardly even notice the lines. I barely notice the lines on my FD Trinitron monitor.

"My MAG XJ810 is apature grill and there are no damper lines."

The XJ810 is not an aperture grill monitor, it is a standard CRT monitor that's why there are no damper wires.
You can see the specs here.

Monitor type CRT
Tube type Shadow mask
CRT manufacturer Hitachi

I didn't notice mine until you said it. Dang it! :p But seriously, you'll get use to it and I think it is worth it. Especially if you play alot of games. I can say I have never noticed the line when playing a game.
