I keep recieving the following message when trying to put my computer into standby or hibernate mode: The device driver for the 'SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-612 SCSI cdRom Device' device is preventing the machine from entering hibernation (or standby). Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver.
I updated the driver to no avail...completely uninstalled (from hardware porfile and then physicaly) only to have it give me the same message about my CDRW drive. I have tried everything I can think off. Has anyone ever encountered this before or have any ideas for me to try???

I'm using windows 2000 btw

TIA for any help

The only thing I can think of is a setting that you made to prevent it from using power management during the viewing of movies in the DVD software that wrote this to registry and must be edited out perhaps?

Thanks for the replies! I'll try the registry cleaner....guess it can't hurt to try it!

Norton Utilities also has a good registry cleaner. Anyway, I faced this problem also. When I installed my special keyboard drivers (program actually) to utilize the 12 additional buttons on top, and then I messed around with some Dvorak keyboard settings, hibernation was prevented. But my problem was solved after I reformatted. (It was time to do so anyway, to keep the system clean). ;)

Is your CD-RW SCSI also? Just wondering since your DVD drive is SCSI. My guess would be that there are special Win2K drivers for your SCSI card that are different from WinME.

If you have an Adaptec card, I would think that Win2K would auto-detect the drivers, but for other brands, that might not be the case.

Both drives are SCSI, and I've already installed the latest driver for the DVD drive. The odd thing is that the hibernated/standby worked fine when I had WinMe installed...which does lead me to believe that it's a 2k problem (not really a problem with 2k, but a compatability issue), but I'm no technician so all I can do is guess! :) I went to Dell for help, as that's who I got the computer from, but once they ran through their list of things to try, they threw up their hands and said they didn't know what to do...anyways, it's not really that big a deal, it's more the fact that it doesn't work and I can't figure it out. Thanks for all the input!!
