Help Plz: Puter freezes when I click on Network Neighborhood

a) its not connecting to network - does not see other computers
the light is lit on the switch

b) not connecting to internet thru LAN

c) it freezes 80% of the time as soon as i click on netwoork neighborhood

d) ECS K7s5a mobo 1800+ xp with win 2000 professional

not using onboard lan - using smc card

help plz .. TIA!

when i unplug the cable from the switch ... "network cable unplugged" pops up on the taskbar - so i know it is seeing the switch.

from the switch it goes to a router and then to a cable modem. I guess it is not doing that - what am i missing here .... please help!


it cannot see other puters on the network nor can they! I am so frustrated right now!

What kind of network? Sometimes here in the dorms I can browse the network and sometimes I can't.

Are the other computer plugged in to the same switch also? You might want to try to type in the name of the other computer to try to connect to the other computer. Go to start -> run -> \\name_of_computer
