HELP PLZ!!! Getting 0x7b Error...INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

I just tried to repair an installation of Windows 2K by reinstalling it over my installed version (stupid rookie move, I know), now I can't get my computer to start! I keep getting an Inaccessible boot device error message! Please help me if you can....I will be forever greatful!!!

Silly question, but, tried reformatting from a boot disk?

I had hoped to not reformatt..so as not to lose all my stuff. That's why I was trying to repair the installation instead of doing a clean install.....if i have to reformat, i guess i'll bite the bullet and do it. Hope to not have to though!!!

Are you dual-booting with another OS?

If not, try fdisk /mbr. That should fix it.

I gave in and formatted my drive....reinstalled and all is fine now.....thanks for the input!!!
