help! Plextor 708 makes a grinding sound on boot!! - what can be done???

whenever I boot the pc the plex 708 light comes on green and makes a grounding sound 4 times!! Its very annoying!

Ive tried changing the jumper at the back to master, slave, CS - it makes no difference.

What can I do?

Put a disk in there? How about a firmware upgrade?
