I have a Plextor 40x SCSI CD-ROM (50 pin) and a Smart & Friendly
(Sanyo) 12-4-32x SCSI CD-RW hanging off an Avansys SCSI card
(supplied with S&F) in my system.
The Plextor drive scores as expected when using something like
CDSpeed, works fine in general, etc. etc.
HOWEVER, I have major problems if I try to do an audio CD-> CD copy
using Adaptec EZ CD creator (v 4.02). What happens is that the
pre-copying "analysis" part of the procedure takes FOREVER (5-20
seconds per track). The CD-ROM spins up, seems to finally find the
track. Spins down. Goes to the next track. Spins up again. Etc.
But sometimes it takes a LONG time to find the track when it spins up.
When the analysis is complete, the actual copying proceeds without
a hitch. But the "analysis" portion of the procedure can take longer
than the actual copying. By comparison, "analysis" when copying
from my Hitachi GD-2500 IDE drive takes a few seconds total.
I tried to do a copy (on the fly) with Nero 5.0.0.9 and get a buffer underrun almost immediately...Although if I use "copy to hard drive"
first, then Nero works OK.
The Plextor CD-ROm is the first device on the internal SCSI chain.
The Smart & Friendly/Sanyo SCSI device is the second (terminating)
device.
Any suggestions?
