Just built my pc tonight, and I am trying to install Vista Ultimate on my Raptor. It was OEM, so didn't come with a driver CD. Vista can see the drive, but that's it...I can't install on it yet. Do I need to get a flash drive and download a Raptor driver to it before I can continue the install?

Thanks!

I don't know the requirements for Vista, but if you do have to download a driver, it will be for the RAID / SATA controller on your motherboard. :) I know it doesn't help much, but it will save you some time (looking for the Raptor drivers).

EDIT: Also, what motherboard are you using?

Thanks, I'm using the Gigabyte 965p-ds3 motherboard. I can see a Raptor RAID driver at the WD site, but it is 2004 and doesn't say it supports Vista. Should I still try it?

You need to be on the website for your motheboard. Find the driver for the SATA controller.

Ok, I found 2 different drivers from the same date here.

Should I get:

GIGABYTE SATA2 RAID Driver (Preinstall driver, press F6 during Windows* setup to read from floppy)
O.S. : Windows XP 64Bit

OR

GIGABYTE SATA2 RAID Driver
O.S. : Windows 2000,Windows XP,Windows XP 64Bit

OR am I supposed to install both (I have Vista 64)?

Ok, I copied both to a CD but they are .exe files. How do I get Vista to run the executable, since it's not recognizing any drivers on the CD?

I'm still not able to get this to work.

Does anyone have a Gigabyte 965p-ds3, Raptor, and Vista? If so, how did you get Vista to recognize your Raptor?

I've tried loading the Gigabyte SATA2 RAID Driver during Vista install, but Vista doesn't recognize any of the drivers on the disk.

Do I need to do an update from the bios instead? If so, can someone explain how to do that?

Thanks for your help!

How come two threads on the same topic? The AT Forums frown on shotgun posting. Learn some patience!

Drivers for Vista 64-bit will be iffy for a good long while yet there are not even drivers for lots of things for 64-bit XP yet... Most normal people should be using 32-bit Vista.

My biggest gripe with Vista 64 is the REQUIREMENT for all drivers to be digitally signed or the system will halt. It can be bypassed with an F8 at startup but what a PIA.

That really sucks.

what happens when you boot off the vista cd, you should not need drivers for the raptor or your motherboard (unless you are trying to do raid, and even then you shouldn't need specific drivers).

(Didn't realize how old this thread was (or that it had just been posted to after 2 months idle) when i responded).
