Greetings All,
I need some advise please. My system does not start at all and I'm not sure if its a dead mobo or a dead PSU.

Here is the symptom: when I push the start button on the case all I get is the PSU lighting up for just about 1 second and then it turns off for about 3 seconds and then it repeats that cycle until I unplug it.

I did check the PSU with one of those hand-held testers and it showed what I believe was some good voltage readings, +12v +5v and so forth, however it also showed the letters LL which my paperwork didnt tell me what that meant.

Also, when I unplugged my PSU connector from the mobo and then checked the PSU with the tester the lights and my fans inside my case did light up but they dont when the connector is back in the mobo.

So could it be the mobo or is it the PSU? as I type this it does sound like the mobo but troubleshooting problems like this sometimes are a little tricky for me :)

Thanks for any help, btw, my system is about 2 1/2 yrs old.

The easiest way to check to see if you can get a spare PSU from a family member or a friend. Was there something that happened that led to these problems? If I were to make a bet I would say it is the PSU.

Looks like it's "mobo" this time but.., I'd try with a different PSU as suggested ^.

I hope its just the PSU, however, with my luck its probably the mobo :-(

and I just had everything apart last month when I bought a new video card and HSF which were so large that I had to buy a new case to put the new hardware in.

also my system was doing that for about 5 months off and on so whatever it is decided to give up the ghost Tuesday night!

Another quick qquestion, if the cpu was bad on the mobo would I still be able to get into the bios? thanks

well I tried another PSU and I got the same results so it does appear to be the mobo so now I'm headed to frys to get one.

Nope. You need a "CTRL-ALT-DEL" combo to get to BIOS, i.e. cpu/memory/video.

Hope you have better luck next time ;)

Well, I got my new mobo and CPU and heres what I got,

mobo: ASUS P8Z 68V LE
CPU: Intel i5 2500K

and the reason I had to buy a new CPU is cause my 2 1/2 yr old i5 3.3ghz 661 socket 1156 CPU seems not not have many mobo's out there <sigh>

So anyway since I was gonna upgrade this June (retiring this summer) I just went ahead and upgraded...

Good combo :)

Too bad you didn't have a microcenter close enough as they have the $50 off on the combo currently.

Good grief! I am having a heck of a time with this rebuild. So I removed my old mobo and attached the HSF to the new mobo and cpu and after installing them in my case I now cant get into Windows.

After messing around and trying different things I then tried putting in WinXP disc and tried doing the Repair thing and when I try that I then get the BSOD...

I'm no computer expert but I have built many systems and this one is kicking my arse! I'll probably have to remove everything and then try it once again its just that there is sooo much stuff in there to remove :)

XP can be picky when is moved around. Play with IDE/AHCI/Compatibility settings in BIOS.
