I am looking for a DVD recorder to tape football games. The thing is...I want to be able to make sure it records even if someone changes the channel. I don't want to get a messed up game since we'll be away during a lot of them this year. Is this a common function on all of them? ..or is it somethings special? I don't want a subscription to Tivo and want one as cheap as possible.

Ah..I see what you might mean. The new copy protection laws... Do these work on regular cable?

Dude, he was being sarcastic.

Seriously, just split the coax and send one to the recorder and the other to the TV. The DVD recorder can record one show while the TV can display a different show.

How many times can a signal be split technically?

No..I just saw that some programs have a signal that has different level of copy protection on it. I never knew that existed..and for some reason I doubt it does here...Adelphia in a hich town..
