I bought a Leadtek A400 TDH GT (Geforce 6800 GT)... ... Initially it boots up and works fine, but once I run a 3d game like doom3 or half life.. any 3d game.. it works for a bit than hangs the system and gives lines/discoloration etc... when I reboot it gives discolorations and eventually I also get corrupted letters and weird characters in bios screen on re-boot.. The thing is it works O.K. for a bit and I am not finished building my new computer so I am using the card in an old Pentium3 1000Mhz Computer with an ASUS CUV4X MB...I do have everything in the old computer hooked up to an Antec Truepower 480W though for the testing I still think maybe the MB is not feeding the card enough power/and or is just too old cause it seems to work OK than eventually screws up.. because if I power down for a while and reboot it works ok again and than starts screwing up.. and if I run any 3d game that quickly causes a screw up.. so I think it may be overheating... perhaps the MB is the fans power source and is not sufficient ?

Anyways I'd really liek to know if the people with the faulty leadtek cards EVER have booted up ok and managed to run a game etc.. without and screen corruption >? And also if anyone has any idea whether or not the card is crap or its the old mobo I cannot get into the store I bought it at till saturday..

Does that motherboard have lower AGP voltage than the newer mobos? I may be talking out me arse, but I believe the newer video cards need the new AGP standard.

If you can test it in another rig, do that. Otherwise I think you'll have to assume it's dead and needs to be returned to the store...

I'm also guessing that if it's the wrong type of AGP style (voltage issue) then you wouldn't get it to boot in the first place.

Guess what!!!! Apparently this is a common problem with these, there are quite a few faulty leadtek 6800 gts. RMA it or return to store for an exchange if you can. I have just contacted Leadtek RMA for a # and am sending it in this weekend if the store wont give me another one or credit. According to the e-mail I got from Leadtek 'there are no known problems with the A400 GT' ummm. .. go to ncix.com check out the leadtek a400 gt tdh thread (its an online store) look down at the bottom where users leave comments. These cards are apparantly garbage. :(

Oh damn man, this sucks. It's been more than 30 days for me so I doubt the store will take it back. It just figures that the one place that had GT's in stock was doling out defective cards. DAMN!

Dude, I can totally sympathize. Luckily I have time less than 30 days to go in to the store, my beef is of course they don't do refunds. And I am certain the card I got had been sold before and returned, cause some of the cables/adapters etc. were not in the plastic bags. I'm assuming they re-sold it to lock my money into their store. I am honestly considering calling the cops if they dont issue me a store credit when I go in today. I am not interested in waiting the 2-3 weeks it will take to RMA it. They way I see it this is their fault and responsibility not mine. ANY opinions/experiences with being under 30 days and returning a defective item anyone ? I believe that if they cannot replace it immediately (which they can't because they have no more gt cards from any vendor) I should be entitled to store credit. Regardless I will be raising hell / contacting the BBB if they don't give me a credit today. :frown:

Dorkenstein start the RMA process now, go on Leadtek.com go to support fill out the form with your problem you'll get an e-mail back quickly. They'll give some suggestions and attach an RMA form, fill out the RMA e-mail it back and wait for your # (I got one the next day). Than send it in. According to them it is a two week turn around. BUT, I'm sure they know there are problems with these cards and are not going to send out another crap one, plus they seem to be hard to come by. Hopefully you will get one within less than a month. Regardless the sooner you get on it, sooner you will have a new one.
