Last Xmas..I switched to AMD A64 3200@2550 on Neo2 Plat @1.6v with XP90 and 1gb(2x512 KVR)..runs great

Anyway..my wife wants to get rid of her 2yr HPZE4125 notebook...seems to make her feel ill...

I was going to get a new laptop but she decided on a desktop

So now I am thinking great ...I can move around setups at home and get a new mobo/cpu and videocard for me( I will give my wife..my sons P42.4@2.9, my son will get mine..and I will get new ..WOOT)

Except I am so confused..I am lost with the choices now....

to build a new computer I will need:
mobo
cpu
ram
videocard
PSU
17-19in lcd
case
(no soundcard use on baord for my wife, hdd or optical drive...)

I have about a $1000 to spend
could I get a AMD dual core, X8xx pci 256mg and 1GB ram, sli/crossfire mobo or is that expecting too much

BTW do you need to 2GB of ram to run a dual core to be like 1GB single core???
If I have

You can get an AMD X2, the ram, the video card and a motherboard for under the $1000 limit, maybe even a good PSU if you shop around carefully, but there is no way to get an LCD included with that budget. You can run 1GB of ram just fine with a dual core processor.

If you can wait a bit AMD is supposed to be releasing the X2 3800+ next month which will be around $350 and would probably work into a $1000 budget. Currently the cheapest X2 is the 4200 at a bit over $500

Heres a stab at a budget X2 system with current prices

X2 4200+ retail with HSF $527

Epox EP-9NPA $84.99

Corsair value select 1gb $80.99

Sapphire x800 256mb $169 after MIR

Antec Performance TX with 500w PS $124

Advueu 17" 16ms LCD monitor $169.99 after MIR

That totals $1155.97 + shipping
Assuming the 3800+ will be $150+ cheaper than the 4200+, that would put you right at $1000. You may can shave a few dollars off here and there by shopping around for deals

Thanks guys...guitardaddy those links are a big help...looks like I want too much on my budget...

Yeah if you don't really need the multitasking capabilities of the X2, I would recommend a San Diego 3700+ that would save $200 and definately get you under $1000. My SD 3700+ overclocks to 2.8ghz and is very fast.

I really do not need anything but as always want everything...

I did not realize dual core was so expensive..the 3800 looks like a nice price point but even at $350 seems like alot..EDITED just looked at Venice pricing...ouch...

Oh well..may have to rethink the reality

just looked at cpu prices ..jeez I thought they were cheaper....
