Hello everyone,
I am currently in the market for a DVD drive and have narrowed the field down to either an ASUS 12x or Toshiba 12X drive. I have read a great number of reviews about Toshiba units but have found very little about the ASUS drives. I understand they have some interesting features (variable speed selection) and are built very well. From another site that benchmarks DVD drives they mention that the ASUS is the first DVD drive that is able to read to a CD burner @ 12x for on-the-fly recording. I am going to simply watch DVD's and Rip some to VCD. Both are supposed to be region free with either a firmware upgrade (toshiba) or jumper-setting (asus). Does anyone have any experience with the ASUS drive as compared to the Toshiba units? Any recommendations for my situation? I certainly appreciate anyone's input. Thanks in advance!
