Hello - I hope this is OK, but a good friend of mine is having the following problem and I said I would post it here for him - he would appreciate any help he can get.

Many thanks on behalf of Alex - his problem is as follows:-

*********

Up until this morning, my PC worked %100 fine.

I went to turn it on and I got as follows:-

- P4P800 motherboard Green light is on
- CD-ROM lights up
- DVD ROM lights up
- hard disk starts
- hard disk light stays on RED
- CPU Fan spins
- P/Supply Fan spins

BUT

I get ** NO VIDEO ** signal at all
I get ** NO BEEPS ** of any kind
And the PC is just locked / frozen

Pressing DEL or INS does nothing - cant get into BIOS, and the a:\ drive doesnt light up

Is this *likely* to be the video card ?

I am trying a new Video Card tomorrow, but failing that, can anyone suggest what it might be ?

All help / advice / suggestions much appreciated.

Ta,
Alex

Thanks, Ben

Remove everything apart from the CPU (this includes memory!) to see if you get any beeps. If not, then the CPU or the motherboard is faulty; I would lean towards the motherboard, as it should beep frantically if the CPU has died.

Clear the CMOS on the motherboard. It's in the Asus manual how to do it on this board. Involves moving a jumper pin temporarily. Make sure the pc is unplugged when you do this, and remove the silver battery when clearing the cmos as well.

Also, make sure his 12v 4-pin power connector is attached to the board in addition to the regular power connector. This board apparently requires the additional power supply 4-pin power to be connected. Remove it and reseat it if it's already connected.

Is the PC speaker connected? I'm assuming yes. Sigh, no beeps = bad (meaning cpu or mobo is DEAD).

Well, I remember that everytime I had this issue, clearing the CMOS is the first thing i did. Arg, I can see i'm just reitterating everything that's already being posted, but I guess it's good I guess that I'm posting, since now you have 3 posts that say the same thing 😛.

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon too. I had an Asus board a while back which behaved the exact same way. It would only post perhaps 1/10 times. Very annoying - it got to the point where once it posted & booted, I just wouldn't turn it off. Not a very good solution.

I'm in the process of RMA'ing the board. I'll probably never buy anything from eBay again... no matter how "NIB" the item is advertised as.
