Got in all my parts today for my new system. I have built several systems before but this is the first one in a few years. first, my hardware:
asus a8n32 sli Deluxe
seasonic s12 600w
evga 7800 gt n16 256mb
opteron 170
2 gb corsair xms pc3500 (the memory that is recomended for this board)
WD 250gb 16mb caviar 3.0 drive
Dell 2405
and like it matters thermal take armor case

-I installed the motherboard, hooked up the pwr led/switch and reset, hdd led and speaker jumpers
-installed the RAM into channel A1 and B1
-installed the cpu with factory heatsink and fan and pluged the cpu fan into its jumper on the board
-pluged the 24pin PSU connector and the 4pin connector into the board
-installed the video card into the top pci express spot
-plugged in a keyboard and mouse and the monitor

pressed power. System turns on, motherboard light is green, memory activity lights are full on but screen is blank. Tried switching inputs on the monitor, it was already set to DVI-D and then tried changing which DVI output the monitor was connected to on the vid card (dont no if it matters). Nothing still just black screen. So I reset the cmos and tried all over again. Still nothing. DAMNIT!!!

if anyone has any suggestions please help me out I really hope its something stupid i missed because that would really suck if something is DOA. I swear I always get DOA parts. This was all ordered from newegg mostly and zipzoomfly for the cpu and ram. Thanks.

Wasn't there another power connector on this board than solely the 4-pin and 24-pin ones?

EDIT: The so-called "4-pin EZ Plug power connector", as found here...

BTW NIce system!

Gave it a try? If it's needed for powering video cards, and you're not getting any image...?

EDIT: Power cord is plugged into 7800GT?

thanks! Hmm tried plugging a free power connector to it and still nothing. I wish I had some spare parts to test this out with but I dont have anything else spare so debugging this is really going to suck.

SWEET!!! its something with the ram I pulled channel A's stick and put it in Channel B's slot and it POST'd. Hmm now wtf is wrong with the ram!

ok must of either been a memory seating issue, but they clicked in, or for some reason it didnt like the order the ram was in. I put channel B into channel A and A into B and now it Posts. thanks guys!

Ok finished formating and copying xp files to disc and then restarted. Upon starting it went to BSOD complaining about ACPI being not compatible. So went into bios and disabled it. Restarted and It goes through bios and then just goes to black screen. But monitor has green light so its not sleeping, just showing black screen. any thoughts as to why its doin this?

tried one stick of ram, in both channels....re enabled the ACPI and still get BSOD. says that the version of my bios does not support ACPI and that I should flash it. I highly doubt that its not ACPI compliant.....wtf?

Let one stick in, reformat and reinstall Windows XP... If it's stubborn, it stays so until the next install... Had it myself too...

BTW Off to bed, need to study tomorow... 😉

Good Luck with it!

well im reformating now with just one big partition. When its been failing I was dividing the drive into a smaller partition (20gb) for the OS and such and another drive for other stuff. Im doing one large drive now to see if that makes a difference. I dont no if its ram because I have been unable to get the computer to not post even if I switch the RAM around so I think it was initially just not seated correctly. IF this still does not work I will call asus tomorrow. Thanks guys.

thanks all. I got it to work. you know what it was. For some reason when I reset my cmos, something happend. I loaded factory defaults and all my problems went away...phew! thanks again

havent checked yet...Im going to when I get home today. It was out of stock on newegg and then they got them in so I imagine they are right from the factory. newest bios probably.
