I wanted to clean up my computer of all the dust in it so i unplugged my computer, opened up my computer, unplugged all the case wires to my motherboard, (power sw, reset sw) then pulled out all the cards pulled out my cpu, cleaned all the cards with air inluding the cpu heatsink/fan, i then cleaned the motherboard with air, unplugged the motherboard power cable and was about to remove it from the case to get a look at the back when i realized it would be a lot hard to do because of the plastic press pins. so i left it there put some screws back in the motherboard that held it in, put my cpu in, reseated all the cards, took out some fans that i thought were un-necessary and reconnected everything, (ide cables, scsi card cables, case to mb cables, then i plugged all the wires back in and pressed the power button, nothing. :disgust: power supply did not turn on either nor any noises, nothing, here was my setup:

Abit bx2 r2
Pentium III 650 o'cd to 806
128mb SDRAM ECC
Asus (Nvidia) GeForce 256
Diamond Fireport SCSI Controller
3Com 10/100 BaseT Ethernet Card
Sb Live Card
Tower ATX Case with 300W PS
Maxtor 20GB 7200RPM
Maxtor 15GB 5400RPM
Pioneer DVD 10x
Plextor 24x CD-rom SCSI
Panasonic 4x/8x CD-R SCSI

So i thought, okay maybe there is a short somewhere, so i unplugged all the power cables except to my motherboard and unseated all the cards, still nothing.... and i double checked the case->motherboard cables and made sure the power sw and reset sw were all correct, i didn't connect the speaker cable, hdd led, t/s led, power led because i thought they didn't matter, i tried it anyway with all those plugged in, still nothing. :(

It was working fine before so either the PS like died or my motherboard did. I made sure not to produce any static and i didn't feel any discharge so i'm sure it wasn't because of that. I know on ATX PS's, they don't turn on even if you flip the switch on the back, so its really hard to test to see if its the power supply thats bad. Is there something that i missed? i mean maybe the motherboard is gone? or there was somehow someway i'd manage to do so damage to it so that NOTHING turns on? help me out on this one guys, thanks.

Sounds like you have missed something!

Try unplugging the power from the wall for a few minutes before turning it on then try unplugging everything except power, VGA card, 1 memory stick (if you have more than one) and see if it turns on.

If it does, start adding devices one by one.

Good luck.

well i don't think putting the video card in will do much because even with the video card out and the mem and cpu in with the powersupply connected, it wouldn't turn on.... i even tried with no cpu in there...

Try leaving it unplugged from the wall for about 30 minutes or so and see if that helps. Could of tripped the power supply.
