It was looking really good there until I rebooted - now no post at all.
Is there some secret to resetting the bios on these things?
Did I fry something? (nothing looks or smells burnt)
Thinking back on it, I should have left the multiplier setting alone and just adjusted the fsb. If I had it to do over that's what I would do. But what I did was adjusted the multiplier up and set the fsb at 133. Stupid I guess. Or maybe something else is wrong and I just don't know it.

I have had better luck dropping the CLOCK and upping the FSB.

Right now I'm running a 1900+ XP UNLOCKED at 178 FSB with a 10.0 CLOCK.

That is on my old Epox 8k7a motherboard and is known on the TS Q as "Smoke #3".

Another AMD system is running a 1600+ XP LOCKED at 175 FSB.

This is the server for the TS Q and is known as "Smoke #8". It will run a little higher but I've sacrificed top speed for security since this rig is responsible for the Q.

If you look at the TeAm Smokeball SetiQueue sorted by CPU you will see the fastest computer right now is "Smoke #5", a P4 2.4 GHz running at 152 FSB (Locked Clock is 18).

I think a duplicate system (except for motherboard) will start doing a little better as I have just tweaked the memory and set all the voltages to max is "Smoke #6". This is my personal computer.

In about a week I'll be upgrading "Smoke #6" to a P4 2.53 GHz C Stepping. I'm looking for big things from that rig. It should get me above 3 GHz. :Q

Does it allow the CPU fan to come on at all?

Try using a multimeter and make sure the one connection is broken and the other is connected (opposite of what it was originally from what thread on Asusboards said...)

Yeah, I used a meter and it is correct.
It came up in bios like the mod worked - normally you can't change fsb or anything and this mod makes those changes available.
After the mod the changes were available, I set them and rebooted - no posting since!!!

Have you clear the bios via jumper and/or tried holding the insert key when you power on?

Just curious, did the BIOS flashing go ok? Did it post after you upgraded it?

Yes, the bios flash worked good. It booted back into Windows after that.

Then I powered down and did the mod, powered up and it went right into bios.

I made a few changes and rebooted - ever since no post.

I put in another cpu (AMD XP1800+) and put it in and still no go.
If I hit the reset button it starts with a high - low - high - low repeating bios beeps - what's that?
I put the cpu from that machine into the one I am using now, so we can see it is ok.

Try booting without the CMOS battery and the CMOS jumpers set to clear the CMOS. Try booting with just a video card too.

BTW, this is normal when set to too high of a setting, I had to do the above a few times when I started with too high of an FSB and finally found it's sweet spot of 147. It took a while because I started up at 166, then 160, 155, 150 etc.

Not an Abit... that's good! :| hi-lo-hi-lo is usually a memory problem, isn't it? Can you look up the beep codes on the bios provider web site?

Geoff

Well, I checked the memory in my other machine - it's good.

I tried that Dave and still no joy.

Next I unsoldered the changes, and guess what? Still no post.
Maybe I heated something up too much or who knows?

Bummer, now I gotta find a new mobo

Try power off, then at the same time you hit the power on hit and hold the insert key. That has worked everytime I have set the multiplier to high.
