Hi

I am running the following system:
winxp pro sp2
Abit IT7 Max2 rev2
P4 2.4@2.9 160fsb
1gb of Kingston Valuram pc2700@3200
cpu:memory 4:5 divider with 160fsb:200mhz
2 x160gb hdd on HPT 374 each is master
Audigy 2
9700 pro

19in Envision 9110 LCD 25ms response rate with DVI

I went and purchased a Nvidia BFG 6800 OC 128mg videocard..on the best buy deal...mine has a check mark and may unlock to 16p,6p...but may too and OC is anybody's guess

I have not opened it yet

My question is given my LCD response rate of 25ms is it worth having this card...I can play games gemerally pretty smooth at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 with some of the details turned down.. like 2xaa, 8xAF, med textures etc...it is game dependent
I would prefer to play at 1280x1024x60(only setting dvi allows)

what do you gurus think

i went to see it on their website, the price says 249 but is that with a mail-in rebate or anything like that??? o and by the way that is a sweet card

I would say it is- didn't you get HL2 and Far Cry included in that for $250 after rebate? If you consider the HL2/FarCry worth $50, you got the card for $200..
Your current card, which is 20-30% slower, is worth $150 to someone.
So you can get a ~25% speed bump for $50, assuming HL2 is something you would have bought anyway.

If you unlock the 4th quad and 6th VP, that card will split the difference between a 6800 and a 6800GT at 12X10 and below, an even better deal.

I'd say it's a worthy upgrade. It won't absolutely destroy your 9700 Pro, but it is a generation newer and a good bit faster. It's better than the 9800 Pro, which is 10-15% faster than your card on average, so I'd say it's well worth it.

$150 for a 9700 Pro is a bit of a stretch (9800 Pro's go for $150 sometimes), but you can definately get $130 or so for it.

The 6800 is a great card for 1280X1024 gaming on LCD's. I would probably turn off AA in most cases because 1280 is right where the memory bandwidth falls off (ie 4X AA often KILLS performance at 1280 and 1600 on a 6800nu), but at 1280 with no AA, it will be considerably faster than the 9700 Pro.

Hmmm...wonder if I should wait on the X850...

Sounds like it is a bit of a boost...I am able to HL2 (which I got before the deal..so I will need to sell it) run it at 1280x1024 on my lcd with 2xaa, 8xAF..pretty good for me anyway
